VisionCare Appoints Joaquin Wolff Vice President of Global Marketing & Sales

Hiring of Ophthalmic Industry Veteran Broadens and Strengthens Management Team

Saratoga, CA - June 9, 2005 - VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, Inc., a developer of advanced visual prosthetic devices for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, today announced Joaquin V. Wolff has been appointed Vice President, Global Marketing and Sales. Mr. Wolff joins the company as it expands management capabilities and adds resources in preparation for commercialization of its products for treating end-stage macular degeneration in 2006.

Mr. Wolff has more than twenty years of successful management, marketing, and sales experience in ophthalmic technologies. He joins VisionCare from VISX, the worldwide leader in laser vision correction, where he was Vice President of Global Marketing from 1999 to June 2005. At VISX, he was a member of the executive management team and responsible for global marketing, evaluating new business opportunities, and strategic planning. He most recently organized and directed the launch of the market-leading CustomVue® wavefront guided LASIK procedure.

From 1990 to 1999, Mr. Wolff held key marketing positions at Alcon Laboratories Inc., Surgical Division, Forth Worth, Texas. There he developed growth and market expansion strategies for the Vitreoretinal business, launched the market-leading Legacy and Accurus platforms, and directed the marketing efforts for numerous new product initiatives. Prior to Alcon, Mr. Wolff was at CooperVision Surgical, Inc., where he enjoyed a highly successful sales career and held marketing responsibilities for a broad array of ophthalmic surgical products.

Mr. Wolff holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas and a B.S. in Business, from the University of Redlands, Redlands, CA.
