Our Focus

VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies (VisionCare) is a privately-held development stage company engaged in the research, development, manufacture, and marketing of proprietary implantable ophthalmic devices and technologies that are intended to significantly improve vision and quality of life for individuals with untreatable retinal disorders. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the most prevalent disorder of the retina, is the target of the company's initial visual prosthetic device, the Implantable Miniature Telescope (IMT™ by Dr. Isaac Lipshitz).

VisionCare has brought together a world-class team of clinical investigators and advisors in the field of ophthalmology, along with both experienced technical and management teams.

The Company has developed and is currently sponsoring clinical trials of the Implantable Miniature Telescope (IMT™ by Dr. Isaac Lipshitz), a visual prosthetic device designed to improve the vision of patients who have bilateral moderate to severe central vision loss due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other macular disorders.

AMD: Leading Cause of Blindness

AMD, affecting individuals over the age of 50, is the leading cause of permanent visual impairment and blindness in the US. Although individuals diagnosed with early AMD do not have significant vision loss, those with advanced AMD can have significant permanent vision loss that affects their ability to perform everyday activities, such as going shopping, recognizing people, and watching television. The National Eye Institute reports that over 1.6 million individuals have advanced AMD in the US, primarily affecting those over the age of 65. Approximately half of these individuals are affected in both eyes, which can severely impair the ability to function in vision-dependent activities. VisionCare is in late-stage clinical development of their lead product to help improve vision and quality of life for those affected by advanced AMD in both eyes.

VisionCare is a venture capital backed company. Major investors include Onset Ventures, Three Arch Partners, Pitango Venture Capital, and Infinity Venture Capital.
