Clinical Trials and Investigations
VisionCare is currently evaluating the Implantable Miniature Telescope (IMT by Dr. Isaac Lipshitz) in a Phase II/III multi-center trial in the United States. The trial is designed to establish the safety and efficacy of the device in patients with moderate to profound central vision impairment due to stable age-related macular degeneration or Stargardt's disease affecting both eyes. The research trial is two years in duration.
Patient enrollment for the Phase II/III trial is complete. No further applications are being accepted for this trial. Information on additional clinical trials, when available, will be posted on this page. Phase II/III (IMT-002) Trial Eligibility Criteria:
Patients must:
- Have stable, untreatable age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or Stargardt's disease in both eyes.
- Not currently have active wet AMD, not have been treated for wet AMD within the past six months, and have no other evidence of active choroidal neovascularization.
- Have no other eye disease except for well-controlled glaucoma or cataract.
- Have visual acuity no better than 20/80, but not worse than 20/800 in both eyes.
- Have good peripheral vision.
